How we keep Miti free, forever
Miti is free and ad-free — and we intend to keep it that way permanently. That's not a promise we make lightly; it's a direct result of how the app is built. Here's the honest breakdown.
Costs that don't grow with users
The reason most free apps eventually add ads or subscriptions is that their costs scale with the number of people using them — more users mean bigger server bills. Miti is designed so that this never happens. Whether a hundred people or a million people use it, our running cost stays essentially the same.
No servers to pay for
Miti has no backend. The calendar is a fully static site, and the same static data files serve as the “API” that the mobile app reads. Everything is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, whose free tier comfortably covers what we need — so there are no hosting fees, and no server that gets more expensive as traffic grows.
No domain or developer fees
The web calendar runs on a subdomain of our company website, so there is no separate domain to renew. The iOS and Android apps are published under the same developer accounts we already maintain for the rest of our company's apps, so there's no additional store fee tied to Miti either. Taken together, our ongoing technical cost to run Miti is effectively zero.
The one real, recurring effort
After the initial development, the only meaningful work left is publishing each new year's data when the official calendar becomes available. Converting the राष्ट्रिय पञ्चाङ्ग PDFs and prints into the structured formats we need is now largely done by AI — but the important part, verifying that data entry by hand against the source, is not something we're willing to shortcut. That review is roughly a couple of days of careful work each year, typically around Magh or Falgun.
We're happy to do that work for free. Getting the calendar right genuinely helps every Nepali who relies on it, and there is a real sense of satisfaction in building something used by so many people — the more people it reaches, the more that motivates us to keep it accurate and keep it free.
